Focus On What's Important
Dan Lake
It's confession time.
I was supposed to write this blog weeks ago, so what the heck happened? Laziness, distraction, and a hurried life: whatever you want to call these, they simply blind me from what is important.
Does this happen to you? Have you ever woken up at 2AM in a cold sweat, or are in the middle of the day making a sandwich and then stop in your tracks realizing that you forgot to do something? It could be anything from 'I forgot to send a birthday card!' to 'It's been days since I spent meaningful time with my Lord and Savior.'
Unfortunately, I too often say the latter. I find myself living out Romans 7:15:
“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate to do...”
I hate that I so often put other meaningless things on the throne of my heart. It's easy for me to feel the shame of bad choices; that's when I know I've taken a wrong turn. God doesn't heap shame on us. He showers us with grace, inviting us back to spend time at His feet. He invites us to spend time on what's MOST important: communing with Him, learning from Him, and worshiping Him.
So, I encourage you to do whatever you can in order to consistently and constantly think of what's most important, and how our heavenly Father invites us to encounter His blessings.
